Politicians have sent out a flurry of tweets, calling the appeals court decision a big win for small businesses.
Passionate reactions spread throughout Twitter after a federal appeals court threw the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers a major curveball Friday, temporarily blocking their controversial Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule in all 50 states.
The Cincinnati-based Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 in favor of 18 states that challenged the legality of the regulation, which seeks to bring small bodies of water under federal protection. A stay will block this exercise of executive power in order to review its legality, the court said in its decision.

“Small businesses everywhere … are breathing a sigh of relief,” Karen Harned, executive director of NFIB’s Small Business Legal Center, told The Business Journals. “This regulation has the potential to dramatically alter the economy by placing a massively complicated set of federal rules on local development.”
Below are some of the Twitter responses to Friday’s ruling.
