NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Announces Winner of the NFIB/Craft Media Entrepreneurship Video Award

Washington, D.C., July 2, 2014 — Today the National Federation of Independent Business Young Entrepreneur Foundation (YEF) announced Paloma Ortiz as the winner of the NFIB/Craft Media Entrepreneurship Video award, a scholarship program designed to provide an opportunity for young people to utilize their passion for entrepreneurship in a creative manner. Paloma Ortiz is a recent high school graduate from Llano, Texas and owner of Paloma Productions. She will be attending University of Texas-Austin in the fall where she will major in biology.

“At NFIB’s Young Entrepreneur Foundation we encourage young people to consider careers in small business and entrepreneurship and strive to help further the education of these students,” said Molly Young, Senior Manager of the Young Entrepreneur Foundation. “The NFIB/Craft Media Entrepreneurship Video award was created to recognize students for their innovation, initiative, and entrepreneurial spirit. We are so excited to provide young entrepreneurs like Paloma Ortiz, the opportunity to be recognized for their businesses.”

“I grew up on a ranch 45 minutes from the nearest town, which meant I was too far away to hold a typical teenage job. I wanted to save money for college so I decided to start my own business from home when I was in ninth grade,” said Paloma Ortiz. “I started Paloma Productions in which I create videos and photo portfolios for nonprofits, individuals, and sports teams, and I have been able to fill a need in my area that has resulted in a profitable business of which I am very proud. I believe that entrepreneurship is very important and I am happy that NFIB has chosen me as the winner of the Entrepreneurship Video award.”

NFIB’s Entrepreneurship Video award was created to encourage young entrepreneurs to creatively articulate the positive effects of entrepreneurship. Applicants were asked to create a 90 second video where they explained how entrepreneurship positively affects America and what life skills they have gained as an entrepreneur.

The winning video will be presented at the NFIB Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award Luncheon in Washington, D.C., on July 16, 2014, and the winner will receive a $1000 scholarship which they may use to attend for any two or four year College/University/Vocational or Technical school for the following school year.
