Haunting Halloween Costumes and Sweet Sugary Treats Brought to You by Local Pennsylvania Small Businesses

(HARRISBURG) Oct. 28, 2014 – The National
Federation of Small Business (NFIB), which represents 15,000 small businesses
in Pennsylvania, explains its small companies that are often behind the sweet
and scary purchases you make this Halloween.

“At Make-Believin’ in
York, owner Debbi Reck has hired 15 workers to help man her busy costume shop
during Halloween,” said Kevin Shivers, executive state director of NFIB. “Debbie, who learned to sew as a child, owns one
of the few costume shops that carries individually designed and constructed costumes.

“At Blair Candy in
Altoona, the warehouse outlet store has been crazed all week selling Cyclops
eyeball candy and gummy bugs. The 75 year family business supplies groceries
and convenience stores and employs about 45 workers.”

“And don’t forget
there are dozens of pick-your-own farms supplying pumpkins, haunted farms and
other small businesses making Halloween a fun and scary holiday!” Shivers
continued.

He noted that small businesses account for 98% of all Pennsylvania
businesses and they employ almost half of the private sector workforce, adding
“Small businesses make a community vibrant, they usually hire local people and
they contribute to the state’s economy year-round.” Click here for SBA facts.

When
Halloween has come and gone, Debbie at Make Believin’ said she will be making
and selling theatre costumes and donating her make-up skills to local churches
that put on plays. Blair Candy said it will
be delivering sweets and donating shirts for sports teams and band members at
the local high school.

Small
businesses will be adding a personal touch to Halloween this year and they will
also be behind the more unusual holiday decorations and gifts you will see in
the next few months.
